LMS Beginners have less than one year of soccer experience and are self-motivated to learn soccer skills during a 55-minute session with a coach-player ratio of 1:4. They are taught dynamic ball control skills such as scissors, outside fake, outside-outside, pullbacks, sole rolls, etc. In addition, they are beginning to learn to dribble, pass, and strike with the correct laced shot across-the-body technique. These players are also taught the laws of the game and are encouraged to explore their interest in a specific position. LMS Beginners are also starting to read the field with more time and space from a defensive position. It is recommended that these players do not play offensively in their teams before displaying proper orientation and having been exposed to a defensive position.
Players categorized as LMS Beginner-Intermediate are those who possess more than a year of experience in soccer, and are enthusiastic about competing with their peers while striving to gain possession of the ball during games or competitions. These players exhibit sound ball control with basic techniques, and are gradually mastering speed with linear sole roles, dynamic bells, pullbacks, outside-outside, linear scissors, v-pullbacks, L-pull-drags, and outside fakes. They are currently learning advanced skills such as croquetas and Maradona's. Additionally, they can dribble and pass with correct techniques, strike, and cross with strength using their dominant foot only, and are developing correct techniques with their non-dominant foot. Mastered the laced shot across-the-body strike technique despite low power. They are learning to use speed and to be multidirectional while carrying the ball, but tend to move linearly during game-like competitions. They are also starting to develop change in direction and speed to be more unpredictable with frequent cues from the coach.
Intermediate players are those who stand out playing in a more advanced and competitive environment such as Flight 2-3 soccer club or AYSO Extra/All-Star. They have developed a good speed and agility with multi-plane sole roles, outside-outside, and outside fake-outs. They are beginning to use more complex moves such as scissor fakeouts, v-pull-drags, and L-pull-drags. They are nearly mastering advanced techniques such as croquetas, Maradona's, and other combination ball control moves. These players are developing high/low and/or strong ball trapping and first touch. They possess enough power in their pass to switch fields, display a strong back foot drag throw-in, and can dribble and pass with correct technique on both feet. They can strike and cross with strength using both feet and can change their speed and direction while carrying the ball. Mastered the laced shot across the body, laced shot straight, and learned curled shot. They consistently demonstrate good posture and anticipation prior to trapping, but they are still a bit inconsistent when it comes to gaining full control and possession of the ball. They can be oriented and perform well in the center mid and center forward positions.
Intermediate-Advanced players operate at a higher level of play, specifically at a Flight 1 club level, high school, or college. They possess exceptional speed and proficiency in multi-plane sole roles, outside-outside, and outside fake-outs. They are incorporate scissor fakeouts, v-pull-drags, and L-pull-drags under pressure in their gameplay. Additionally, they have developed the ability to execute complex moves like croquetas, Maradona's, and combination ball control moves. These players exhibit exceptional ball trapping and control skills, enabling them to make quick and accurate decisions with their first touch. They possess remarkable power in their passes and are skilled in switching fields. Mastered the laced shot across-the-body, laced shot straight and curled shot.They are also excellent at anticipating plays defensively and offensively, and proficient in scanning the field for passing options. Furthermore, they hold the ball well to draw players in and can play in multiple positions. They are keenly interested in one particular position in the field, but are versatile enough to adapt to other positions. Despite losing possession, they consistently follow the play, displaying an unwavering commitment to the team's success.
These dedicated players have a strong sense of self-motivation and are committed to practicing or crosstraining daily to enhance their soccer skills and prevent injuries respectively. They have achieved mastery over various ball control techniques, such as change in speed and direction, bicycle kicking, side kicking, set-piece kicking, and can effectively utilize both feet while dribbling, passing, crossing, and striking the ball with correct mechanics. They possess an innate understanding of scanning the field and positioning themselves both with and without the ball without external cues. Prior to receiving the ball, they adeptly posture and position their bodies to their advantage for trapping and first touches. Mastered the laced shot across-the-body, laced shot straight and curled shot. These players can accelerate and decelerate while retaining complete control over the ball. They possess exceptional defensive skills and can efficiently slow down attackers, make them predictable, gain fair physical possession of the ball, and execute accurate long/short passing with both feet. Their striking skills are remarkable, and their juggling abilities are unlimited - even while in movement. They have the ability to employ their ball control and technical skills during games, making them an asset to any team.
